Elvesang

Elvesang (eng.: Riversong) is a solo double bass album by Norwegian bassist Sigurd Hole released in January 2018. Following its release the album won critical acclaim around the world, in media such as The New York Timesallaboutjazz.com and nordishce-musik.de.

Elvesang can be seen as a quiet hymn to nature, focusing on the relationship between human kind and nature and on the importance of listening. The music is by far a result of my in-depth exploration of the double bass through many years inspired by the meeting point between of Norwegian folk music and improvisation. On a philosophical level, my approach to the conscious act of listening is in part influenced by avant-garde electronic composer and accordionist Pauline Oliveros.
